Analytical & High-Voltage Testing Services

Analytical Testing
In our analytical lab, we use leading-edge technology to identify, examine, evaluate, and compare insulation materials. We perform tests on the chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of materials to determine which materials will work best in your application

Some of our analytical lab capabilities include:

  • DSC - Differential Scanning Calorimeter – Measures and characterizes the thermal properties of materials including melting point, degree of cure, and glass transition.

  • DMA - Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer – Measures mechanical properties, such as modulus (elasticity) and viscosity (damping) as a function of time, temperature, frequency, stress or combinations of these parameters. DMA is also useful for qualitatively characterizing the glass transition temperature.

  • FTIR - Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy – An analytical method for chemical identification and concentration analysis, used for material identification.
  • MTS Tensile – Tests mechanical properties of materials including tensile, compression, elongation, adhesion, peel, and strength of sample.

  • pH Meter – Tests pH of materials, including special tests such as leachable chloride content with
    ion-specific electrodes.

  • Gurley Densometer – Measures porosity of papers, films, and laminates.

  • Gurley Bending Resistance Tester – Measures material stiffness.

  • Contact Angle Meter – Measures surface energy.

  • Muffle Furnace – Burn out at high temperatures

  • Electronic Microscope - Analyze materials up to 1000X magnification and take digital pictures.
  HIGH-VOLTAGE Testing
Our high voltage lab allows us to develop more efficient designs for your insulation system by testing dissipation factor, voltage endurance, voltage breakdown, and partial discharge.
  • Hipotronics Hipot Tester – tests dielectric strength of materials up to
    100 kV AC and 40 kV DC.

  • Megohm Bridge – tests insulation resistance, surface resistivity and volume resistivity of samples.

  • Capacitance Bridge – tests dissipation factor, dielectric constant, and conductance of materials

  • Dissipation Factor Testing – used to determine power factor tip-up of the groundwall of a stator coil at temperatures up to 180C.
